# Code Editor & Export

The AI Builder Code view — browse and edit your project's source in the browser, the generated stack, and export the full project as a ZIP.

AI Builder generates real source code that you own. The **Code** view shows it in the browser, lets you edit it yourself, and exports it.

## The generated stack

| Layer | Technology |
| ------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Frontend** | React with Tailwind CSS. New projects use React Router with server-side rendering; older projects use React with Vite as a single-page app |
| **Server** | Express on Node.js |
| **Database** | PocketBase — database, authentication, and file storage |

Projects are organized as a monorepo with separate folders for the web app, the API, and the database.

## Code view

Open **Code** from the preview toolbar to:

* **Browse** the project's files with the file picker.
* **Edit** files directly and **Save** or **Discard** your changes.

Saving your own code edits doesn't use AI credits. A few platform-managed files — such as internal configuration and the generated SEO files — are hidden or protected so the project keeps working.

## Exporting code

**Export code** downloads the whole project as a ZIP file. Export needs a hosting plan.

The export contains:

* The web app, API, and database configuration and migrations.
* Everything needed to install dependencies and build the project.

It leaves out installed dependencies (`node_modules`), build output, Git history, and database contents. Export is one-way: changes you make to the exported code don't sync back to AI Builder.

You can run the exported project locally with Node.js, push it to your own Git repository, or deploy it to other hosting — for example [Hostinger Node.js hosting](/node.js/overview.md).

> **Note:** There's no GitHub sync and no FTP or SSH access to AI Builder projects. Use export to take the code elsewhere.
