# Registering a Domain

Search and register domains directly in hPanel.

## Search

1. Go to **Domains** in hPanel.
2. Click **Register a domain** or use the search bar.
3. Enter the name you want (e.g., `mybusiness`).
4. Browse available TLDs and prices.
5. Select the domain.

## Register

1. Add to cart.
2. Pick a registration period (1 year, 2 years, etc.).
3. Optionally enable **Privacy protection** (hides your personal info from public WHOIS — recommended).
4. Complete purchase.

The domain appears in your hPanel account immediately. Registering several domains at once? The domain checker supports **bulk registration**.

Registration contact details are managed as **Contact profiles** under **Domains** — create one per person or organization and reuse it across registrations.

## Auto-renewal

Domains auto-renew by default using your payment method on file. Disable it in domain settings if you prefer manual renewal.

> **Warning:** If a domain expires and isn't renewed, it enters a grace period, then becomes available for anyone to register.

## Connect to your hosting

1. Go to **Websites** → your site.
2. Open **Domains** → **Add domain**.
3. Select the domain from your account.

DNS is configured automatically since the domain is registered with Hostinger.

## Privacy protection (WHOIS)

Replaces your name, email, address, and phone in public WHOIS with proxy info — protects you from spam.

1. **Domains** in hPanel.
2. Click the domain.
3. Toggle **Privacy protection**.

## Transfer lock

Each domain has a **Transfer lock** toggle that prevents unauthorized transfers away from Hostinger. Keep it on unless you're actively transferring out.

> **Note:** ICANN rules impose a 60-day transfer lock after registration or an ownership change — during that window the domain can't be transferred regardless of the toggle. For `.uk` domains, transfers work via the **IPS tag** instead; the transfer lock must be off to change it.

## Transfer a domain in

1. Unlock the domain at your current registrar.
2. Get the **EPP/authorization code**.
3. In hPanel, go to **Domains** → **Transfers**.
4. Enter the domain name and EPP code.
5. Complete the transfer.

Transfers typically take **5–7 days**.
