# Contacts

Manage your Hostinger Reach audience — subscription statuses, where contacts come from, custom fields, tags, and importing contacts from a CSV file.

Your audience. Every campaign and automation sends to contacts, filtered through [segments](/reach/segments.md). Find them under **Audience** → **Contacts**.

## Subscription status

Status decides whether a contact can be emailed at all.

| Status | Meaning | Receives email |
| ---------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------- |
| **Subscribed** | Opted in and mailable | Yes |
| **Waiting for opt-in** | Signed up but hasn't confirmed, when [double opt-in](/reach/settings.md#subscribe-settings) is on | No |
| **Unsubscribed** | Opted out, or removed by you | No |

Unsubscribed contacts are excluded from every send automatically — you don't need to filter them out yourself.

> **Note:** Contacts that bounce are **not** unsubscribed automatically. They stay subscribed and keep receiving mail, which hurts your sender reputation. Clean them up periodically from a campaign's **Recipients** tab — see [Sending Domain](/reach/sending-domain.md#bounces-and-list-hygiene).

## Where contacts come from

Reach records how each contact arrived, shown as an icon in the list:

* **Manual** — added one at a time
* **Import** — uploaded from a CSV file
* **Sync** — pulled from a connected site or store ([Integrations](/reach/integrations.md))
* **Form** — submitted one of your [forms](/reach/forms.md)

Contacts also arrive through the API and at store checkout.

## Contact details

Opening a contact shows its activity and lets you subscribe, unsubscribe, or delete it. Phone numbers are entered with a country selector and stored in international format, so the same number is recognized however it was typed.

## Custom fields

Beyond the built-in name, surname, email, and phone, you can define your own fields under **Audience** → **Contacts** → **Manage** → **Custom fields**.

| Type | Holds |
| ------------------- | -------------------------------------- |
| **Text** | Short free text |
| **Number** | Numeric values |
| **Date** | A single date |
| **Single choice** | One option from a list you define |
| **Multiple choice** | Several options from a list you define |

Custom fields are usable in three places: as [segment](/reach/segments.md) conditions, as personalization tokens in emails, and as extra fields on a [form](/reach/forms.md).

## Tags

Tags are free-form labels for grouping contacts — a signup source, an interest, an event. Manage them under **Manage** → **Tags**, apply them in bulk from the contacts list, and build a [segment](/reach/segments.md) from a tag in one click.

## Importing from CSV

**Import CSV** walks through four stages: upload the file, map its columns, review what was found, then choose what happens after import.

* Accepted formats are `.csv` and `.txt`, up to **10 MB**.
* Map each column to email, first or last name, phone, subscribe date, or a note — or to one of your custom fields. Unwanted columns can be skipped.
* Email is the only required column.
* The review stage reports valid rows, invalid addresses, and duplicates. Choose whether duplicates are **skipped** or **updated** with the new values.
* After importing you can tag the new contacts, add a note, and create a segment from them.

> **Note:** Imported contacts don't trigger the "new subscriber" [automation](/reach/automations.md) — importing a list won't accidentally email everyone in it.

## Exporting

Select contacts in the list and choose **Export** to download them, or export the whole audience at once.
